Details of Defense
Details of Defense sessions are position-specific skates designed to help defensemen develop their overall game.
Our curriculum focuses on:
- Defensive foundations such as gap control, angling, stick detail, positioning, and awareness
- Position-specific skating, puck skills, and decision-making in all three zones
- Developing the ability to move pucks efficiently and impact the game offensively

At EDG, our Details of Defense sessions are built to develop complete defensemen—players who can defend with structure, handle pressure, and contribute offensively with confidence.
The best defensemen don’t just stop plays—they start them.
COACHING STAFF
This curriculum will be designed and led by coaches who specialize in defenseman development, with additional support and contributions from our coaching staff throughout the summer. To read about their backgrounds, visit our Coaching Staff page HERE.
Nate Handrahan
Coach
Nate Handrahan brings 25+ years of elite coaching experience, including 14 seasons at the NCAA Division I level with Niagara, Robert Morris, and Ohio State. He is the owner of Hammer Hockey Development and a head coach with the Ohio Blue Jackets.
A former Division I defenseman at Niagara, Handrahan was a two-time all-league selection and assistant captain before playing professionally in the ECHL.
Josh Harrold
Coach
Josh Harrold brings extensive coaching experience at the highest levels, including time in the USHL, ECHL, and 15+ years as a AAA head coach.
A standout on the blue line at Miami University, he went on to play six pro seasons with over 300 games across the AHL, IHL, and ECHL, and was a NAHL Defenseman of the Year.
COSTS
$45 per skate | All sessions available a-la-carte
To participate in these sessions, players must be rostered at the Junior, AAA, High School Varsity or AA level for the 2026-27 season.
Space is limited to a maximum of 18 skaters to ensure a proper coach-player ratio for quality instruction.
